Karepan - Japan

Karepan, or curry bread, is one of the most popular savory pastries in Japanese bakeries. Made with Japanese curry that's wrapped in soft dough, coated in breadcrumbs and deep-fried, it makes for a crispy, chewy and comforting snack. You might have already tried Japanese curry, which is thick and gravy-like, typically made with potatoes, carrots, onions and some kind of meat. It's not very spicy but rather sweet in flavor and works perfectly as a filling for the crunchy, panko-crusted bread casing. Wash it down with a chilled beer, and you've got the best new bar snack on your hands.
