Should You Be Giving Your Cat HOMEMADE Food?

You can opt for commercial brand cat food, or you can specially make your feline's meals at home. But which is better for them?

It's probably safe to say that most of us opt for a store-bought commercial cat food to give to our cats, but there are some cat owners who prefer to make either some or all of their cat's meals homemade. While both of these can be reasonable options, there are definitely a few things you need to keep in mind before making your decision.

Cat Vs. Human Diets

A cat's diet isn't as flexible as that of a human. They're small animals, so changing even just a small amount of their daily nutrition intake can make a huge difference.

Their dietary needs are also quite different. For example, while humans are able to go vegetarian or vegan and still maintain a balanced diet, cats cannot, as their bodies require certain proteins and ingredients that can only be found in meat.

So the first thing to keep in mind when you're considering what to feed your cat is that everything you know from personal experience simply doesn't apply for your feline!

Commercial Cat Food Brands

The benefit that store-bought cat foods offer is that experts have formulated just the right balance for your cat. That's also why there are different commercial foods available depending on size and age of your cat: because felines' needs change depending on all these factors.

When you buy officially approved commercial foods, all you have to do is give your cat the right amount per day, but you don't have to worry about whether or not they're getting what they need from that food.

Homemade Cat Food

That's not to say that you can't make your cat homemade food. But before you do, it's vital that you consult with a nutritionist or dietitian who is knowledgable on the subject. It's not easy to get the perfect balance that you cat needs, so you should never do this without the help of a professional.
