If You Have Hypothyroidism, This Is How You Can Lose Weight

Thyroid problems are unfortunately very common, especially for women. One of the results of a malfunctioning thyroid is gaining weight...and having trouble losing it.

What Is Hypothyroidism?

This condition occurs when the thyroid gland stops producing enough hormones for the body to function properly. It's much more common for women: only an estimate of 2 out of 10 patients with hypothyroidism are men.

The cause is not known for certain, but pregnancy, among other factors, is often closely linked with this health issue. Many women tend to have problems with their thyroids after giving birth.

Weight Gain

Hypothyroidism can have serious effects on the body, such as joint problems and heart disease. One of its most well-known consequences, though, is weight gain.

This occurs because thyroid malfunction makes your metabolism slower. Thus, you will burn calories more slowly, causing most of the energy you consume every day to convert into fat deposits.

Putting a stop to this problem requires you to make a change in your lifestyle: add daily exercise to your routine to improve the speed of your metabolism.

Even a simple 30 minutes a day will be a huge help to your body, especially if you favor cardio workouts.

What Should You Eat?

According to some research, thyroid problems can make it more difficult for your body to identify signs of hunger and satiety.

To prevent this from causing problems, organize the moments you eat into 5 or 6 small meals a day. This will ensure that you maintain stable levels of sugar and that your appetite does not go uncontrolled.

It's important to eat foods that are high in nutritious value: vegetables, fruit, whole grains, and nuts. As much as possible, avoid processed food and food with high amounts of fat and sugar.

The most important thing of all is that you are able to find a balance within your body once again, so you can keep it healthy and at its ideal weight, despite all the hormonal difficulties.
