Can't Seem To Build Muscle? Nix The Painkillers

Are you dieting and working out regularly, but have yet to see any results? The main culprit could be something as seemingly harmless as Ibuprofen.

When Painkillers Halt Progress

It's frustrating enough when you can't seem to get the lean body of your dreams. Maybe you've been sticking to a strict diet and exercise regimen for months — and still no results! There could be a variety of factors that affect how fast your body can build muscle. However, scientists have recently discovered a new possible cause.

A study conducted by the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden has found evidence to suggest that the popular anti-inflammatory drug Iboprofen may actually inhibit muscle growth. Sounds crazy, right?

Over a period of two months, participants in the first group took 1200mg doses of Ibuprofen while the second group took smaller 75mg doses. Both groups took part in muscle training programs 2-3 times a week. By the end of the study, participants from the low dosage group exhibited twice the muscle growth as the high dosage group!

More research is still necessary to confirm Iboprofen's effect on muscle development. But as Ibuprofen is so commonly used, these findings could have an immense impact on the kinds of medicines we're taking!

If you plan to hit the gym any time soon, you might want to leave the painkillers at home. Soon, this could be you!
