If you, like 30 percent of Americans, suffer from the occasional insomnia, you're probably already familiar with the name of this hormone. The body naturally produces melatonin, which is used to regulate the sleep cycle. Some doctors even recommend taking melatonin supplements for those who have trouble falling asleep at night. However, a recent study from the University of Granada, University Hospital La Paz (Madrid) and the University of Texas has found evidence to suggest the melatonin may also help prevent obesity.
