Citrus Fruits

There is a reason that every year, as winter approaches, people start telling you to eat more citrus fruits. This is because they are rich in Vitamin C, an antioxidant vitamin known for dissipating fatigue and increasing blood circulation. Vitamin C also helps to:

  • protect white blood cells from oxidation
  • stimulate the activity of white blood cells in the body
  • promote iron absorption
  • increase the production of interferon, a molecule that destroys harmful microbes

Moral of the story: when viruses are going around, you should eat plenty of citrus fruits. This means adding more lemons, oranges, grapefruits, clementines, tangerines, etc. to your diet, so you're not running low on Vitamin C. Other foods to consume include: broccoli, sweet potatoes, tomatoes and bell peppers.
