Sudan is about as bad as it gets when it comes to danger. The region of Darfur has been in a state of emergency since 2003, with ongoing violence between government forces and rebel groups descending into outright genocide. According to the U.S. Department of State travel warning, watch out for "violent flare-ups, tribal violence, and armed banditry."
