Eggs

Did you know that the dates printed on egg cartons are not actually expiry dates? The American Egg Board explains that they are either a 'Julian' date, showing when the eggs were packed, or just a guide for stores to know how long they can sell the eggs.

Raw eggs will keep at optimum quality for about 3 weeks after their "sell by", "use by", "best by", or "expiration" date printed on the carton, as long as you have kept them refrigerated the whole time and are not cracked or damaged.

Still not sure? To check whether an egg is edible or not, try this simple test: put the egg in a glass of water. If it stays at the bottom, the egg is fresh, if on the other hand, floats, it shows that the egg's air cell is very large, and that it is therefore probably spoiled.
