We have Pat Olivieri to thank for Philly cheesesteaks—simply called "cheesesteaks" in the City of Brotherly Love. He invented the now famous sandwich at his sandwich cart in the 1930s and started a cultural phenomenon. Today, just a few feet from Pat's King of Steaks sits their biggest rival, Geno's Steaks. Their healthy rivalry is the stuff of legend, but there's one thing they agree on; the only acceptable cheeses on their sandwiches are provolone, American, or Cheez-Whiz.
