Don't overbuy fresh produce

This may seem a no-brainer, but it's worth repeating: don't buy huge volumes of fresh produce or food with a short expiry date, unless you have a clear plan to preserve, cook or freeze it.  Seeing delicious produce on sale for a great price can be very tempting, but stick to your meal plans, remember, there is nothing more heartbreaking than opening an over-ripe avocado.
