Why Does Wine Give You a Headache?

Sugar

It's no secret that wine contains a generous amount of sugar. Red, white, bubbly – they're all guilty culprits.

However, what you might not know is that sugar and alcohol make a dangerous pair. They're both dehydrating to your body, as they each requires a ton of water to process. So together, they're very likely to run you dry, leaving your body no choice but to deplete essential water supplies from other places, including your head.

If this is the cause of your headaches, avoid overly sweet wines, such as dessert wines, and opt instead for drier varieties.
