What is Oktoberfest?

Initially a celebration of marriage in 1810 for the crown prince of Bavaria (who later became King Louis I  —  or Ludwig in German), and Princess Therese von Sachsen Hildburghausen, the festival has become a concrete tradition — two-hundred years later and people are still partying!

It's success has meant that over the years, the festival has been able to evolve. Nowadays, you can enjoy live concerts, elaborate theatre, dance, and opera shows, and extravagant parades.

The modern day festival also stretches over a longer period, starting in September in order to enjoy longer, warmer days.
