Sponges
Ironic isn't it? The thing that is supposed to clean turns out to actually be the most bacteria-laden thing in the whole kitchen? One study by NSF found that 75% of sponges tested were contaminated with coliform bacteria, a family of bacteria that includes E.coli.
Some recommend microwaving or boiling sponges to keep them clean, but we think the best way is to just replace the regularly (every week), or better yet, go for a non-porous silicone sponge like this one, which is much less likely to accumulate bacteria.
