Odds are you probably have a bunch of these things lying around your house. Every time you buy a new bag or a pair of shoes, you find yourself with more and more silica gel packets and no idea what to do with them. Whatever you do, don't toss them! With their ability to absorb moisture, silica gel has a variety of uses that you were never aware of — until now.

How To Use Silica Gel

How To Use Silica Gel

1. In your drawers

If too much moisture collects in a dark place like in your chest of drawers, mildew can start to grow and damage your belongings. Avoid this by putting a couple packets of silica gel in your drawers to keep your clothes dry.

2. In your makeup bag

Excess moisture can also damage your nice cosmetics, especially if you store them in your bathroom. Solve this problem by throwing some silica gel into your makeup bag. This will preserve all your powder-based products and keep your makeup fresh.

3. Save your wet phone

Did you drop your phone in the toilet again? Don't freak out — silica gel packets may be able to save your phone (and, by not having to replace it, you'll save a lot of money). This is similar to the dry rice trick to reviving your water-damaged cell phone. Simply place your phone in a bowl of silica gel packets and leave it overnight. The gel will absorb the moisture and you'll be able to power it on again.
