Does Gordon Ramsay's palate need a refresher? His recent endorsement of a South Korean beer has tongues wagging, and not in a good way.

At a press conference for Cass Beer last Saturday, British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay defended his endorsement of the South Korean beer, which has garnered criticism on social media from those familiar with the brand. In the ads, which he's starred in since earlier this year, Ramsay is seen speaking English and dining with native Koreans. They usually finish with him taking a swig of the brew and saying "Bloody fresh!"

One of the commercials (see below), which aired in September, shows him describing how Cass Beer complements Korean cuisine exceptionally well.

The response on social media wasn't one of admiration for the world-famous, Michelin-star chef. Instead, people mocked his endorsement, with some calling the beer "pretty terrible" and "that awful thing" and others simply expressing disbelief.

According to The Korean Herald, Ramsay addressed this response saying, "I'm far from embarrassed. (Cass is) something I drank before the call (for the endorsement) came in. When I have Korean food, I don’t look for a wine list with the most expensive beer to go with it. I want a beer that‘s easy, fresh, and something I can drink without having to show off. I think that was the important thing."

Ramsay went on to say, “Europeans have a very delicate palette. They’re not used to that level of spiciness, so they wouldn‘t understand the importance of cleansing and properly washing food down.”
