Scrub your potatoes well, and wash fruit or vegetables in water before cutting, cooking or eating in order to remove dirt, soil or any other undesirable particles and germs. It is not recommended to use soap or detergent—running water should do the trick just fine. This is important even when you are going to be peeling the produce. If you are using bagged produce or lettuce leaves, check whether they are pre-washed. If so, you can use these without rinsing first.
