Never sabotage another workout: 22 do's and don'ts

Do eat carbs

In order to limit proteolysis (the breakdown of proteins in the body), you need to have a sufficient stock of glycogen in the body. If you're not getting enough carbs, your body will start tapping into its muscle stores for energy during exercise. Opt for carbs with a low glycemic index. In doing so, your metabolism will release the necessary amount of glycogen to power you through a tough workout. Tip: Potatoes are a wise choice, as they help stabilize your blood sugar—and prevent any unfortunate hypoglycemic incidents during exercise (related to low blood sugar: hunger pangs, weakness, passing out, etc.).
