Beaver Tail

"I say, pass me another slice of that beaver tail, good sir!" That's something you could have heard at the table of a European Catholic family in the Middle Ages. Fasting for religious reasons generally meant abstaining from animal products, except for fish. So how does the beaver get onto the table? In that era, the beaver (always swimming about with it's scaly tail) was officially considered to be a fish. Seems like a bit of a stretch, but 10 points for creativity.
