The main benefit of laurel is that it can relieve stress. The combination of chemicals (namely linalool) within the leaves creates a smoke that, when inhaled, will calm your body and mind. People who burn laurel leaves regularly have compared the effects as slightly "psychedelic", but they do not make you feel tired.

The American Association of Nurse Anesthetists conducted a 2008 study and discovered that linalool reduces anxiety and simultaneously increases social interactions. These effects, according to the study, last less than 10 minutes.
