Burger King

The first official Burger King opened in Miami, Florida (its predecessor Insta-Burger King opened a year earlier) in 1954. The company has had multiple changes in ownership since its beginnings and became one of McDonald's biggest competitors over the years. In 2014,  Burger King merged with Canadian coffee and doughnut empire, Tim Horton's, to create the parent company Restaurant Brands International, headquartered in Toronto. The company is majority-owned by Brazilian investment company 3G Capital with a 51% stake. Bottom line? The owners are of varied international origins.
