How Kids Do Trick-or-Treating Around the World
Although Halloween is originally born from Christian religious practices and beliefs, today it's one of the most widely celebrated holidays in the US by believers and non-believers alike. Trick-or-treating is most popular in English-speaking countries and some Latin American countries but did you know about these other similar rituals around the world?

Finland and Sweden
Trick-or-treating in Finland is actually an Easter affair, and one of the most popular traditions is dressing young children as Easter witches, in colorful clothes, pointy hats, a splash of bright pink blush and painted freckles on their faces. The kids go from door to door bearing willow twigs with colorful feathers and crepe paper to ward off evil spirits, in return for treats. Most families give away chocolate Easter eggs or other treats to their visitors and sometimes even small change. The witches also typically recite a rhyme that translates to "I wave a twig for fresh and healthy year ahead; a twig for you, a treat for me!". Today, children in western Finland usually do this on Easter Sunday, while other regions participate on Palm Sunday.
