The 5 WORST Ways To Get Dumped
Back in the day, getting dumped might not have been any easier, but it was likely more civilized than it is now — a phone call arranging to meet, followed by a face-to-face explanation. Or even just a phone call depending on the level of seriousness.
While technology has helped the dating world evolve considerably, it also encourages a more impersonal component in relationships. Text messages replace phone calls. Heart and flower emojis replace real flowers. Pre-meditated conversations replace spur-of-the-moment dialogue, allowing people to construct an image of themselves that may or may not be authentic.
And when it doesn't work out, technology makes it very easy to leave our partners. Here are the 5 worst ways to get dumped. And if you've been a victim of any of them, we feel your pain!
1. Ghosting
This has got to be the worst, most undignified way to break up with someone. It sometimes starts with the slow fade: communication trails off, and when it does occur it tends to be cold and confusing. Then the person vanishes into thin air. Or they act completely normal and disappear out of nowhere. No news, no trace. Just gone, and you're sitting there wondering what the heck happened. The worst part is not having any answers or closure. Word to the wise: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
2. TEXT message/email
This option is simply cowardly, when the person doing the dumping feels too embarrassed, ashamed or indifferent to do the deed face-to-face. Not only does it not provide a real chance for the dumpee to respond, but it also just makes him or her feel like crap knowing how little they meant to the other person. Double disgrace if emojis are used.
3. INtentional cheating to get caught
Whether it's coming home and catching your boo in the act with someone else (the worst) or seeing some sexy messages accidentally pop up on their Cloud (that aren't from you), being cheated on is universally heartbreaking. It's even worse when your ex had calculated the situation, in hopes of getting caught so he or she wouldn't have to do the dirty work themselves.
4. Right before a big vacation
You're a week away from a trip to Thailand with your love, tickets booked and itinerary made. Suddenly, they tell you it's not working for them, and poof! It's over. No exotic paradise location for unprecedented amounts of vacation sex and fruity cocktails. No adventurous Tuk Tuk rides and awkwardly funny encounters with Lady Boys. No night markets or full moon parties. You're left with a very expensive plane ticket and a broken heart...
5. Coming home to a half-empty apartment
This is probably one of the worst ways to get dumped when in a long-term relationship. You've been living with your boyfriend or girlfriend for at least a year now, and although you know things have been off for some time, you never imagined coming home to a goodbye written on a post-it note and half of the apartment cleaned out. That. Is Brutal. And you're on your own for rent BTW.
