Not cooking chicken to the right temperature

Chicken, turkey, etc. should be cooked until the juices run clear. This will kill all the food poisoning bacteria that may be present in these types of meats. When checking the temperature, make sure to insert the thermometer into the thickest part of the meat without touching bone or gristle as this can affect the temperature reading. Cook the following poultry products to their minimum temperatures:

  • Whole poultry (chicken, turkey, duck): 165°F
  • Ground chicken or turkey: 165°F
