Sea Salt

As its name suggests, sea salt is produced from evaporated sea water, often from the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean, or the North Sea. Unlike table salt, sea salt is more coarse and less refined: natural minerals like iron, zinc, and calcium are still part of its mixture, adding to its flavor and texture. Beware, these qualities are easily lost in the cooking process, so most chefs recommend using sea salt as a finishing touch. It's definitely got a crunch to it and should be used more sparingly than table salt.

Suggestion:

It's great sprinkled on cooked fish and meat dishes, broiled vegetables, and even tucked into desserts, such as caramel cakes and chocolate chip cookies.
