Sannakji

While eating raw seafood is quite common across Asia, sannakji, a raw octopus dish served in Korea has one big difference: the baby octopus is brought to the table alive and butchered only seconds before being transferred to the plate.  Thanks to the highly developed nervous system, the tentacles and suction caps stay active, wriggling about on the plate and reacting to chopstick prods. The danger zone is when they are eaten, as the suction caps are known to latch on to  the inside of the mouth or throat, sometimes causing choking and asphyxiation. You know you’re a true sannakji connoisseurs when the wiggling sensation and the risk of choking just add to the appeal of this dish.
