Apple Sangria

The apple brandy in this Sangria adds a complex flavor palate to the standard recipe. It calls for Calvados, which is a French apple brandy originating in Normandy, where it is distilled from dry cider, matured in oak barrels, then mixed and bottled up for distribution.

For this recipe, you'll need: 2 liters of red wine, 1 organic lemon, 1 organic lime, 3 apples of different colors, 6 1/2 tablespoons sugar, 6 1/2 ounces Calvados (a type of apple brandy), 13 ounces of apple juice and 10 ounces of sparkling water. Cut the citrus fruits into thin rings and the apples into small pieces. Place the fruits into a glass pitcher. Add all the liquid ingredients (except the sparkling water) and the sugar. Stir well and let sit for at least 2 hours. Add the fresh sparkling water when serving.
