What exactly is a cappuccino?

A cappuccino is a mixture of 1/3 coffee and 2/3 milk foam.  It's served in a large mug, while the milk is normally heated in a metal jug. The milk foam is supposed to have very small bubbles so that it can remain intact for as long as possible. If the foam dissolves quickly into the coffee, then it's a cafe au lait and not a cappuccino!
