To keep your lemon tree healthy (and alive!), you'll need to water it every 3 days. Take care that the water soaks into the soil, and doesn't just run right through and drain out the bottom. If the weather is very hot, you'll need to water it daily.

While lemon trees in the ground love full sun all day long, but this can stress potted lemons. A good rule of thumb is to give them around 2/3 of full sun per day, with partial shade for the rest. In terms of climate, the optimal conditions for a lemon tree is between 50°F and 80°F — check with your local nursery to see if you live in a good area to grow lemons.
